-Tell the students to imagine: “You are going to a
foreign country to stay and attend a university. The university will give you
enough money and a place to stay”.
-Play some music (some sort of new age will be just fine)
while they are imagining.Let them
imagine for about 5-8 minutes.
-Stop the music and call the students back to the group.
-Everyone talks about where they went and what they did
there. (Students are expected to use past tense, but never mind if they come up
with present tense as long as they get their message across.)
Role Play
"The students meet the disability coordinator at their
imaginary exchange university.Now the
disability coordinator is interviewing them about what they can do and what they
need."
-One student will be him/herself and another will play
the coordinator.
-In this activity, both students try to figure out what
the coordinator would like to know if they really go to a foreign university
and talk about their abilities and their needs. E.g. a visually impaired
student said “I can find my way by myself, but I need someone to read me the
textbooks” or a physically disabled student said “I can go up in the elevator,
but I need someone to open the elevator door”.
-The activity is useful for talking about abilities and
needs using the structure “I can ……, but I need someone to ….”. Their sentences in this structure can be
turned into a song later on.
