The aim of this project is to investigate ways for disabled people to be able to access English as a foreign language. We started with visually and hearing impaired people. In time, the project has grown. We have noticed others who learn language in different ways. For instance dyslexia makes regular English classes difficult to follow. Children with multiple disability can learn English if taught in a suitable way. A glossary explains 'disability words' used on this website
Starting in June 2008, core participants (in Turkey, Bulgaria, Poland and the USA) began to collect materials that will gradually be uploaded onto this site. We welcome any contributions from anyone interested in the issue. We cannot say precisely how this project will develop as it is hoped to be dynamic and open to suggestions from others like us in different parts of the world. We have already have offers from Iran and Japan. Who will be next?
Your contribution: Do you (or someone you know well) have a disability? Have you tried learning English (or another foreign language)? What difficulties did you face? Did you find different ways to learn, ways that worked? We would like to hear from you (Contact Us). All information will be used anonymously, to give ideas to others like you somewhere in the world.
