Clear instructions guide learners through easy activities.  Every stage must be possible.  To become more fluent, players must be relaxed so focus on meaning; 'Mistakes are OK'.

Give me mistakes: Groups of players write sentences (use objects/situations/words trigger players) with AT LEAST ONE MISTAKE.  Others must try to find and correct the mistakes. This way, players make one mistake on purpose; natural mistakes are 'extras', and corrected by other players.   

Minimal grammar: Players (groups of players) can only use words from lists (essential words, international words) to write short stories.  This way they learn to use words they know effectively: they cannot translate from mother tongue (complicated structures, idiomatic expressions, etc.).   They also create reading material for others at lower levels of English.

Translation circle: If learners all have the same mother tongue Translation can be fun.  Prepare different simple sentences (1 per player: print all the sentences on one page, cut into pieces).  Give every player an a4 page and a sentence.  Players write the sentence at the top of their paper and translate it; they fold the paper so the first sentence cannot be seen.  All papers are passed to the next player: translate back into the first language; fold to cover the second sentence and pass on.  Continue until sentences come back to the start. Share the funny sentences.

All the sentences are anonymous (without names, so we don't know who wrote them).  What happened when a player didn't know a word? How did they manage? What changes happened? For example: a waiter - someone who waits - a guard - a body guard.
