Huri Ozel

  My name is huri özel. I was born in Ankara in Turkey.

I’m married and I have got two children, a son and a daughter.  I finished my primary, secondary and high school in Ankara then I studied Chemical Engineering at the Middle East Technical University, graduating in1993.  I worked as a chemical engineer in textile industry in Denizli, which is the best city for textiles in Turkey.

Later I chose to work as an English teacher because of the economical problems in Turkey. While I was teaching English a regular state school I began to lose my sight so I decided to work in a school for the blind .

As my sight disappeared I went to a summer school at the school for the blind and I learned Braille. Since then, I have been working at Goreneller School for the Blind in Ankara, first as an English teacher and now also a Math teacher.  I have recently become a member of two committees (English and Maths) of the Ministry of Education, where I am the first blind member.
