How to test listening for visually impaired candidates? Standard listening exams often require the candidate to read written information. A few seconds later, at the same time as they listen they scan (read quickly for specific information) the text again: this is a parallel process in which the brain combines the information.
A visually impaired person cannot do this because Braille is read with the tip of one finger; the brain 'sees' only what is under that fingertip and cannot skim (read quickly for general idea) or scan Brailled text. |
