Many learners feel safer with passive activities because we are frightened of making mistakes. 

On international projects participants must speak, and understand what others are saying: language is alive, interactive, and each moment matters.  At first it feels too quick.  It is like diving into a swimming pool; the first time the water feels cold and too deep... 

But you can prepare: know what you can do, how you can explain meaning even if you don't know the words, and how to ask for help from others.
